During the National Small Business Federal Contracting Week | Women's Business Summit (March 29, 2011), we celebrate the contributions and growth of America’s proud women-owned small business contractors during Women’s History Month!  The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce™ is proud to honor the growth and achievements of women-owned contractors and lay the foundation for greater success and opportunity for the future. Awards will be given to leading women-owned small business contractors from all across America, federal agency leaders, prime contractors, key resource providers, and Congressional leaders that work hard every day to keep the doors to opportunity open for women in business.

Award Categories:

INNOVATION & PERFORMANCE – awarded to contractors who exhibit outstanding innovation and/or performance on a key contract that will significantly bolster their ability to secure future opportunities.

GROWTH MASTER – awarded to contractors who have achieved significant growth in the government sector over the last three years.

EMERGING STAR – awarded to contractors who received their first government contract award within the last two years and are on their way for future opportunities.

STELLER – awarded to exceptional contractors who have shown exemplary growth, quality, and are positioned as leaders within the contracting community.

Dr. Freda Porter


The USWCC | Stellar Award is presented to Porter Scientific, Inc. (PSI), an exceptional contractor that has shown exemplary growth and quality and is positioned as a leader in the contracting community and beyond. PSI provides a broad range of services that focus on environmental protection and improvement, as well as computer facility support, and infrastructure project management. Over the last nine years, PSI’s revenues have grown over 400 percent. President and CEO Dr. Freda Porter, a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, is one of a few American Indian women who have earned a Doctorate in Mathematical Sciences. PSI has worked with UIDA Business Services (UBS), a Native American Procurement Technical Assistance Center, for the past nine years fostering the company’s growth in federal contracting markets. Dr. Porter now gives back to the community through extensive commitments to teaching, sponsorships, and service on community and educational boards. 


 

USWCC | Growth Master Award

Martha D. Moore

The USWCC | Growth Master Award is presented to McCormick Asphalt Paving and Excavating, Inc. for achievement of significant growth in the government sector over the last three years. The success of McCormick is a story of dogged determination and leadership. In 1990, Martha D. Moore began working on the company’s road crew as a roller operator. By 1997, she owned one-quarter of the company, by 1999 one-half, and in 2004 she owned one hundred percent of the firm. As she took over the leadership of the firm she expanded the firm’s customer base from private, commercial and highway to federal customers. And, as she grew, she developed local sub contractors to support her success. Between 2007 and 2009, her firm grew from five million to twenty million in annual revenues. Ms. Moore is committed to helping those who help her – providing quality employee benefits, one-hundred percent health insurance, and a 401K.

The USWCC | Growth Master Award is presented to 1st Choice Staffing. for achievement of significant growth in the government sector over the last three years. Since founding 1st Choice in 2000, CEO Michelle Bell has been the driving force behind the company’s growth within the federal market. The USWCC | Innovation and Performance Award is presented to NAVSYS Corporation for exhibiting outstanding innovation and performance on key contracts that significantly bolstered their firms ability to secure future opportunities. Under the leadership of President and CEO Alison Brown, PhD, NAVSYS Corporation, which specializes in developing next generation Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, has won seventy-eight Small Business Innovative Research awards. A recent example of innovation achievement is the deployment of the NAVSYS Corporations’ Global Position System Jammer Location System (JLOC). GPS is critical to the U.S. national infrastructure. The JLOC system detects and provides situational awareness of threats to GPS operation, thereby helping to protect and preserve the vital U.S. national infrastructure.

The USWCC | Emerging Star Award is presented to Arc Aspicio, LLC for outstanding growth and achievement in developing federal contracting markets and opportunities. In her 20-year career, Lynn Ann Casey has become a thought leader on homeland security and border management. In 2004, she leveraged her industry experience and leadership to founded Arc Aspicio – a management consulting and information technology company focused on homeland security and intelligence. Ms. Casey believes that the success of Arc Aspicio is all about talent – experienced people with a passion for homeland security and the leadership skills to get things done for clients. As CEO, she has created a place where talented, experienced consultants create innovative ways to solve clients’ most difficult homeland security challenges.
